Banksy vs. Bristol Museum: This is not a Queing oppurtunity

Today we drove all the way to Bristol at 8 in the morning to see the Banksy exhibition we ended up queuing for 4 hours! There were hundreds of people queuing down one road and around the corner to get into the official queue! We were waiting in the rain but no one seemed too bored or tired, probably from excitement and anticipation. I also had time to do a spot of shopping and wandering round Bristol whilst Mum and Dad waited. I bought a vintage sailboat scarf in Motel and this song was playing. Strangely I had heard it before this week in Germany and had to ask what it was. It makes me feel like dancing in my room in a bubblegum dress. Anyway I returned and we waited another hour and a half in the pouring rain. Kindly the people behind us sheltered us with their large umbrella. We also had a giggle at the terrible busking didgeridoo player. Eventually we got a hand stamp and into the queue at the entrance and finally into the exhibition. It was a really fun layout with a melted ice cream van as the information desk and Roman statues in silly poses. I don't think I've ever laughed or gasped in an art gallery before and really enjoyed the exhibition and hunting down the various vandalized paintings hidden on the three floors. I also saw the Owl and the Pussycat by Peter Blake, 2 Beryl Cook paintings and a Renoir. But I was most inspired by a tall vase and an enamel picture by Edward Raby. They reminded me of the paper flowers that appeared at Chanel and were spectacular!

Banksy Exhibition 13th June-31st August

I must visit the exhibition in Bristol museum this summer but am so busy. Apparently the woman who collaborated with Banksy in organising the exhibition lost her job, not telling her boss what was happening. But she said she has no regrets. :) http://www.guardian.co.uk/artanddesign/gallery/2009/jun/12/banksy-bristol-art-exhibition?picture=348798024

Miss Van and Fafi

We went to Paris 2 summers ago and whilst on the way to the Pompidou centre we passed what looked like an empty signless shop. i peered in the window and saw what i thought was some miss van artwork. My heart skipped a beat I was promised we would return to the gallery and so on the way back i ventured inside. To my disappointment it was not Miss Van but 'Fafi' I had never heard of her before but was sure she was a Miss Van rip-off Then i saw her designs for Mac makeup packaging last year and was so surprised I still prefer Miss Van My old art teacher introduced me to her and I had also seen some of her work for Fornarina I love how she mixes a girly palette and makes a cute, feminine yet overtly sexual image Her style is so distinctive She is a genius

London with Clara

On Halloween Clara and I went to Brick Lane and Oxford Street. I love London. There's always something happening After about 10 minutes in Shoreditch a guy from Channel 4 asked us some questions about sportswear in research for a new show Sounds interesting! There was also a new shop since I last went called The East End Thrift Store which had loads of cheap vintage Clara bought a fab 80s wool jumper and a red lumberjack men's shirt from there and I bought a white casual dress and a 50s silk embroidered dress which I had to go back and buy after regretting leaving it! At Beyond Retro there were spooky kids films on the TV and people were dressed up which was fun! There was lots of graffiti as always and there was a really sweet poem written on someones door frame. At first I thought it was a romantic poem but i think it must have been a friendship. They were apologising. It seemed so poetic. Something that would happen in a silly rom-com or something. We eventually got on the tube to Tottenham Court Road and hit Oxford Streets Shops. Clara was searching for Urban Outfitters and Abercrombie and Fitch. She bought some lovely glasses in Urban Outfitters that she'd seen on the internet. We also ventured into the huge Topshop which was horrible as always. It's so crowded and we'd seen so many clothes we no longer knew what was nice! I think there was a good sale on though. Last on the list was Abercrombie. I knew it was at the end of Savile Row. But didn't know where Savile Row was! No one seemed to know where A&F was so we had to ask at least five people! After much wandering and backtracking we found it, the scent of aftershave polluting the street. Handsome men chatted at the door of the grand town house and as we went up the steps the smell got stronger and we could hear music thumping through the shop. Clara said it was like going to a house party but shopping. Clara looked some of the hoodies but decided they were too expensive which was a pity. The sizes available on the bottom were S and XS so you had ask for any other size! On the tube back I'm sure we were sat opposite Sid from Skins' dad which was funny! We went back to my Auntie's house for some pasta and apple pie. Mmmmmm Then we hit the road, listening to Lykke Li, stopping for hot chocolate at the service station. :)
