The Clash (1981, NYC) - The Clash took over Bond's (a former clothing store turned nightclub) in Times Square for an entire week in June, with different opening acts every night.. I went five of those seven nights and saw everyone from the Slits to ....oh gosh, everyone - open for them. Because I was shooting them for the cover of Sounds, I was granted plenty of access. We shot this on the rooftop.

Do you ever get heckled at these solo shows? Some guy shouted at me, "Go get a haircut!" I had really big hair at the time. I was like, "Look at you. How much did you pay for that haircut? Guy, you paid like 50 pounds for that haircut, and you still look like a fucking prick." And everybody was like, "Ahhhhhhh!" And, yeah, I’ve got a microphone. Shut up.

Films!

I've watched lots of films this week which has been inspiring! Film 4 has had loads of Channel 4 productions on, the majority of which I meant to see in the cinema but never did. I started with Hallam Foe which was strange, slightly creepy, endearing and beautiful! It's certainly worth a watch It's a darker fairytale style story, making me wish I could run from this mundane small town, and live in a clock tower. But minus the voyeurism. brick Lane was on Tuesday which I recorded. The flash backs to India were beautiful, however the story was quite tragic and I'm desperate to know what happened at the end. Yesterday I watched Joe Strummer: The Future is Unwritten. It was a fascinating insight into his life and incredibly inspiring. Next week I'm hopefully watching The Duchess and Brideshead Revisited at an old cinema that's always way behind the other bigger chains.

Books

I have actually started reading books, or atleast buying them. Ands even then they're more like picture books. But I am reading Pride and Prejudice which is brilliant and I 've almost finished! I recently bough Cheap Dates Guide to Style which is ok but doesn't include many tips for customising ect. Does anyone know of a book that does? I also bought The Mighty Book of Boosh which is hilarious and has some brilliant pictures. But the books on my wishlist are The Clash which has just been released, with contributions from all of them, and from a quick flick through there are some amazing pictures too! I am also hoping for Tim Walker Pictures

Thee are always those classic shots of the highrise buildings but i really want to see the people and the streets. And the graffiti Cannot wait! Did I already say that? :D

Results Day! 21.8.08

I got an A* in fashion! I was so thrilled! All my hard work finally payed off! I also got: A* English Literature A* Ethics A* Sociology A Art A Science B Maths B ICT To celebrate we went to an exhibition at the Fashion Museum in Bath about Billy Travilla, the man who designed Marilyn Monroe's gowns It was really interesting to hear how he constructed the garments, many had iron rods to create shape or keep everything in place. The 'Diamonds' dress was actually lined with the felt used on snooker tables and was one piece of fabric folded around the body! There were lots of stories about each garment One dress was made for a premiere and had a large tyre mark and lipstick on the bottom(who knows how it got there!) but Travilla refused to clean it as it was part of the dress' history The illustrations were beautiful too
In the rest of the museum there were amazing clothes some dating back to the 1700s. There was a collection of punk photographs and quotes from the photographers about each picture. My favourite was for the cover of White Riot/1977. they pasted 1977 over Hate and War written on Joe's jacket. I also got laced into a corset which was a very odd sensation. it certainly improved my posture! But I was horrified to learn that in Victorian times, pregnant still wore corsets to hide their bump!
